PRIVACY POLICY – METADOX OFFLINE LIVE TRANSLATE

This privacy policy explains how our Android app METADOX Offline Live Translate (app ID: com.metadox.offlinetranslator) handles your information.

In short: your voice, the text of what you say and its translations stay on your phone. We do not collect, store or share them. The app has no account, no ads, no payments and no analytics of its own. The translation component is made by Google. It sends limited technical information about how it is working to Google. You can read the details below in "Internet use and third-party services".

The app is published by METADOX GmbH, the company that makes the VEKTA soundproof mask. Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are responsible for this app.

WHAT THE APP PROCESSES AND WHY

Your voice. The app uses the microphone only while you are translating. It starts when you tap Start listening and stops when you tap Stop. The app is designed for use with the microphone of a METADOX mask, such as VEKTA.

Everything happens on your phone:

1.         Speech recognition turns your voice into text. It uses Moonshine speech models stored on your phone.

2.         Translation turns that text into the other language. It uses Google ML Kit translation models stored on your phone.

3.         Text-to-speech reads the translation aloud. It uses the voice engine built into your phone.

The app does not save your audio, the text of what you said or the translations. It does not send them to us or share them with anyone. They disappear when the translation is finished.

Your settings. The app saves your preferences on your phone. These include the languages you chose, where audio is played and the speech-splitting settings. They stay on your phone. If you have Android's standard backup turned on, Android may include them in your device backup. Your phone's backup service handles that backup, not us.

We process this information only so the app can do what you ask it to do: translate your speech.

WHAT WE DO NOT COLLECT

METADOX GmbH does not receive any information from the app. In particular, we do not collect:

•          your voice recordings, transcripts or translations

•          your name, email address, phone number or any account details (the app has no account or login)

•          your location, contacts, photos or files

•          payment information (the app is free and has no in-app purchases)

•          advertising identifiers (the app has no ads)

•          usage statistics or analytics of our own

We do not create user profiles. We do not sell your data.

INTERNET USE AND THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

The app needs the internet only to download its language models the first time you open it. After that, translation works offline. These downloads never include your voice, text or translations.

Moonshine (speech recognition). The app downloads the speech models from Moonshine's servers. As with any download, the server sees your device's IP address and the files requested. We do not receive this information.

Google ML Kit (translation). The app downloads the translation models from Google. ML Kit is the translation component made by Google. It also sends Google limited technical information to check that it is working properly. According to Google's ML Kit data disclosure (https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure), this includes:

•          device information, such as manufacturer, model and Android version

•          app information, such as the app's package name and version

•          an identifier for this installation of the app, which is not intended to identify you or your device

•          performance information, such as how long a translation takes, and error codes

•          the languages chosen for translation

Google states that this data is encrypted in transit, used for diagnostics and usage analytics, and not transferred to third parties. This data never includes your voice, what you said or the translations. Google processes this information under its own Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). Google may process it outside the EU.

We use these components because they let the app translate on your phone instead of in the cloud. This keeps your conversations private. This is our legitimate interest under the GDPR (Article 6(1)(f)).

DATA SHARING AND HOW LONG DATA IS KEPT

Sharing. We do not share, sell or rent any information about you, because we do not receive any. The only information that leaves your phone is the technical information described above. It goes directly to Google.

How long data is kept:

•          Audio, transcripts and translations: not stored. They exist only on your phone while a translation is in progress.

•          Settings and language models: stored on your phone until you delete them. To delete them, open your phone's Settings, go to Apps, choose METADOX Offline Live Translate and tap Clear storage. You can also uninstall the app.

•          Technical information sent to Google by ML Kit: kept by Google according to its Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).

PERMISSIONS THE APP ASKS FOR

•          Microphone: to hear what you say while you are translating. Android asks for your permission the first time. You can turn it off at any time in your phone's settings. Without it, the app cannot translate.

•          Internet: only to download the language models the first time you open the app.

•          Change audio settings: to send the sound to the right place, such as your mask or the phone speaker.

The app does not ask for access to your location, contacts, camera, photos or files.

CHILDREN

The app is intended for people aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children. We do not receive any personal information through the app, so we do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and have a question, contact us at support@metadox.pro.

YOUR RIGHTS

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

•          access the personal data we hold about you

•          correct it if it is wrong

•          have it deleted

•          restrict how it is used

•          object to its use

•          receive it in a portable format

We do not receive any information from the app. This means we usually hold nothing about you to access, correct or delete. You can delete everything the app stores on your phone at any time. To do this, clear its storage or uninstall it.

You also have the right to object to the processing of the technical information that Google ML Kit sends (see "Internet use and third-party services"). To stop it, uninstall the app. For questions about the data Google holds, you can also contact Google directly through its Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).

If you are not happy with how we handle your request, you can complain to a data protection authority. In Austria, this is the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde), Barichgasse 40-42, 1030 Vienna, https://www.dsb.gv.at. You can also contact the authority in the EU country where you live.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this policy, for example if the app changes. We will publish the new version on this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change is important, we will also mention it in the app's release notes on Google Play.
